Coagulation - The coagulation of blood is a complex process during which blood forms solid clots. It is an important part of haemostasis whereby a damaged blood vessel wall is covered by a fibrin clot to stop hemorrhage and aid repair of the damaged vessel.

This depletes the body of its platelets and coagulation factors, and there is a paradoxically increased risk of haemorrhage.
Thrombus - A thrombus or blood clot is the final product of blood coagulation, through the aggregation of platelets and the activation of the humoral coagulation system. Thrombus is physiologic in cases of injury, but pathologic in case of thrombosis.
